EU and US agree on key elements of open skies agreement.

The key elements in an open skies agreement between the European Union and the United States have been agreed.

According to European Commission spokesman Stefaan de Rynck, important progress has been made this week and both delegations have agreed on the key elements of a first-step agreement. The spokesman added that progress had been made on regulatory issues, security and subsidy rules, Reuters reported.

The agreement is negotiated in stages with another set of talks scheduled to take place in Washington later this year.
