EU Commissioner to participate in Abu Dhabi energy summit.

| BRUSSELS, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegrd, begins tomorrow, Tuesday, a 2-day visit to Abu Dhabi to participate in a number of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week events and for high-level talks with representatives of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other nations.

A statement from her office today said Hedegrd will give a keynote address at the World Future Energy Summit and International Water Summit on Tuesday and the welcome address at the Third annual conference on EU-Gulf Cooperation Council Renewable Energy Cooperation on Wednedsay.

She will have meetings with, among others, UAE Minister of Environment and Water Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, the Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Adnan Z. Amin, and Dr Sultan bin Al Jaber, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change and CEO of the renewable energy and sustainable technologies company Masdar.

The EU Commissioner will have a guided tour of Masdar City, which is being developed as a model for sustainable urban development and aims to become a global hub for renewable energy and sustainable technologies, noted the statement. (end) KUNA 141707 Jan 13NNNN
