EU: Netanyahu's West Bank annexation pledge undermines peace.
Amman, Sept. 11 (Petra) -- The European Union on Wednesday warned against the Israeli Prime Minister's pledge to annex the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank if re-elected, saying it "undermines any prospects for peace in the Middle East." "The policy of settlement construction and expansion, including the ones in East Jerusalem, is illegal under international law and its continuation, and actions taken in this context, undermine the viability of the two-state solution and the prospects for a lasting peace," an EU spokesperson told the French Press Agency (AFP). Tuesday night, PM Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to extend Israel's sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea if he wins next week's elections, a promise that Palestinians dubbed "destructive" to peace prospects. //Petra// AJ 11/09/2019 14:17:32
