 RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Ethyl Corporation (NYSE: EY) today elected E. Gary Cook a corporate senior vice president and president of the company's Chemicals Group. His election is effective Jan. 1, 1992.
 Dr. Cook, 47, has been affiliated with E.I. duPont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, Del., for more than 20 years, most recently as vice president and general manager of its Printing and Publishing Division.
 In his new position with Ethyl, Cook will be based in Baton Rouge, La., with responsibility for Ethyl's Industrial Chemicals, Performance Products and Electronic Materials divisions as well as Research & Development. He will report to Bruce C. Gottwald, president and chief operating officer of Ethyl.
 Cook joined duPont in 1969 as a chemist and held positions of increasing responsibility in research and development, sales and marketing, manufacturing and general management before being named director of duPont's Industrial Films Division in 1984. He was named vice president of the Corporate Plans Department in 1986 and served as chief planning officer reporting to duPont's chief executive officer.
 In 1987, Cook was named vice president of the Medical Products Division. From 1990 to 1991, he served as vice president and general manager of duPont's Printing Systems Division. Earlier this year, Cook was named vice president and general manager of the Printing and Publishing Division, a $1.6-billion business supplying equipment, systems and consumables to the printing and publishing industry.
 A native of Birmingham, Ala., Cook was graduated from the University of Virginia in 1966 with a BS degree in chemistry. He received his Ph.D. in the same field from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in 1970.
