 ETHYL BOARD ELECTS DIRECTORS, VICE PRESIDENTS
 RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Ethyl Corporation (NYSE: EY) today elected two new directors and recommended two additional persons for election as directors at the corporation's annual meeting in April.
 Dr. William M. Gottwald, vice president-pharmaceuticals, and Bruce C. Gottwald, Jr., treasurer, were elected directors of Ethyl, effective immediately. Their election increases Ethyl's board membership to 15.
 Dr. E. Gary Cook, senior vice president and president of Ethyl's Chemicals Group, and Ronald V. Dolan, president and chief executive officer of First Colony Life Insurance Company, an Ethyl subsidiary, were recommended by the directors for election to the board at the corporation's annual meeting on April 23.
 Ethyl's directors also elected Bruce C. Gottwald, Jr., a corporate vice president in addition to his post as treasurer, and Jeffrey G. Smith, vice president-government relations. Both of these elections are effective immediately.
 Dr. Gottwald, 44, has been an Ethyl vice president since 1988. He also is president of Whitby, Inc., Ethyl's pharmaceutical subsidiary. He joined Ethyl in 1981 and served in various management capacities until being named to head pharmaceutical operations. Dr. Gottwald holds a BS degree from Washington and Lee University, his MD degree from Tulane University and his MBA from the University of Richmond.
 Bruce C. Gottwald, Jr., 34, has been Ethyl's treasurer since 1989. He joined the company in 1981 and served in various management capacities, including an assignment at First Colony Life Insurance, before becoming assistant treasurer in 1988. He received a BA degree from Virginia Military Institute and his MBA degree from the College of William and Mary.
 Dr. Cook, 47, joined Ethyl on Jan. 1, 1992, after more than 20 years with E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company. He is responsible for the company's Industrial Chemicals, Performance Products and Electronic Materials divisions as well as Research & Development. He holds a BS degree in chemistry from the University of Virginia and a PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
 Dolan, 49, has been president of First Colony Life Insurance since 1985. He became chief executive officer of First Colony on Feb. 1, 1992. He joined First Colony in 1972 as an assistant actuary. He held various management positions in First Colony until he was named executive vice president in 1979. He is a graduate of St. Vincent College.
 Gen. Smith, 70, has been director of government relations for Ethyl since 1980. He retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant general in 1979 after serving his last four years a commander of the First U.S. Army. He holds a BS degree from Virginia Military Institute, his MS degree from The Johns Hopkins University and his MA degree from George Washington University.
