ESSEX ANNOUNCES SOFTWARE PRODUCT FOR WORKPLACE FITNESS TESTING
COLUMBIA, Md., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Essex Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: ESEX) announced the availability of DELTA, a personal computer-based, non-invasive human performance testing system. DELTA accurately measures small changes in human cognitive and psychomotor performance. The product establishes new standards in speed, accuracy and economy for human performance testing. First customer shipments are expected in April 1992.
The DELTA system consists of over 20 computerized psychological tests and the programs necessary to record, analyze and report an individual's performance. A special easy-to-use keypad is also available. The entire system runs on IBM compatible personal computers, either desktop or portable models.
Harry Letaw, chairman and CEO, explained: "DELTA is a key part of the company's 'Control of Human Error in the Workplace' product line. We were pleased that DELTA was featured in Laurie McGinley's April 21 Wall Street Journal article (p. B-1)." Letaw added that with DELTA: "We can help our customers establish programs to curb costly and fatal accidents that are due to poor human performance. While DELTA does not determine the causes of reduced 'fitness for duty,' used properly, it can detect and report reduced performance quickly enough to help people and their companies avoid catastrophic consequences."
For more than 20 years, Essex psychologists, led by Dr. Robert S. Kennedy, have been instrumental in developing human performance testing methods. Kennedy's research has shown that reliable psychological test batteries offer an excellent method of measuring human cognitive and psychomotor performance.
Unlike chemical methods requiring body fluid samples, DELTA directly measures performance. Used properly, DELTA can help determine a worker's ability to operate a motor vehicle or work with other complex machinery. DELTA can be an inexpensive addition to an employer's drug and alcohol testing program. DELTA administers tests quickly and provides immediate results, enabling frequent screening of large numbers of employees. Further, DELTA is a non-invasive technology that respects the individual's need for privacy.
DELTA can be used in a clinical environment as well. Clinical applications include detecting the unwanted side effects of prescription drugs, monitoring deterioration due to degenerative conditions and observing recovery from various head traumas.
Essex Corporation is a publicly traded small business that provides quality professional services and products to the U.S. government and major industry members. Essex specializes in three distinct functional areas: interactive training, signal and image processors and human error control.
