ESPRIT TEAMS UP WITH BAY AREA BUSINESSES FOR EARTH DAY '92
SAN FRANCISCO, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In Esprit's continuing effort to unify the community and combine forces on global issues, Esprit joins hands with other Bay Area businesses to celebrate Earth Day 1992.
Esprit, along with Just Desserts, The Nature Company, Smith & Hawken, The Body Shop and Working Assets, will saturate the Bay Area with Earth Day activists in its third "hands on" Earth Day operation. A partial list of planned team activities scheduled for Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 include:
-- Organic Farming at the County Jail No. 7
The activist team will join the San Francisco Horticulture Program at the County Jail which offers a therapeutic program to inmates and grows over 30,000 pounds of food a year for local soup kitchens.
 -- Life Center Gardening Project
Activists will convert a vacant lot at 16th and Market into a therapeutic garden for those with AIDS and HIV. The produce from the garden will be distributed to Project Open Hand until 1995, when the site will become a clearinghouse for information on AIDS related issues and will house the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
-- Crissy Field Ice Plant Pull
Golden Gate National Park Rangers will lead the team in the ice plant pull at Crissy Field in order to let the native grasses regrow.
 -- Baker New Place Garden
In one day, activists will converge on a lot to build a garden for the residents of Baker New Place, a recovery center for substance abusers and people with AIDS and HIV infection.
 -- Angel Island
A team will ferry to Angel Island to clean up trails and restore habitat.
 -- AIDS Memorial Grove Project
In order to remember those who died from AIDS, activists will restore and re-landscape the AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park.
