ESCO ELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES U.S. ARMY CONTRACT

 ST. LOUIS, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- ESCO Electronics Corporation (NYSE: ESE) reported today that a contract valued at $23.9 million has been awarded to its Southwest Mobile Systems subsidiary by the U.S. Army. The contract is for 163 M1000 tank transporters with an option for 137 additional units exercisable by June 1994.
 "Southwest has completed testing on the M1000, paving the way for the award of this new Army requirement which is a modification to the 1,177 units already under contract," said Kenneth J. Gilbert, president of Southwest Mobile Systems.
 Southwest Mobile Systems, headquartered in St. Louis manufactures the M1000 transporter in West Plains, Mo. The company makes a wide range of high-mobility trailers, tactical bridging and air cargo handling and loading systems.
 ESCO Electronics Corporation, headquartered in St. Louis, is principally a manufacturer of defense systems and products.
