ESB WORKER RUN OVER BY CAR ON HIS DRIVEWAY; Eddie, 42, dies after 'row'.
Byline: DARA deFAOITEAN ESB worker was killed yesterday after a car drove over him on his own driveway.
Eddie Glynn, 42, died from serious head injuries after what is believed to have been a dispute at his home in the Monksland area of Athlone, Co Westmeath. The electrician was found bleeding to death on the driveway after neighbours reported a disturbance at the house.
Gardai in Athlone said they were treating the death as suspicious. Superintendent Padraig Rattigan said: "The man was discovered shortly after 4am. A call was made to the emergency services to say he was lying injured outside the detached bungalow where he lived.
"He was still alive when an ambulance crew arrived and tried to revive him on the spot.
"He was then taken to Athlone Regional Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
"There were a number of injuries to the man's body and to his head which proved fatal.
"There was no sign of any break-in at the house."
It's believed Mr Glynn died following the reported dispute at his detached bungalow home after 2am.
A row at the house is believed to have moved on to the driveway in the early hours of the morning.
One theory is that the dead man may have been "struck by the car as he attempted to stop it from leaving the house."
Supt Rattigan said: "Glynn's widow was thought to be at the house of a brother of the dead man yesterday as gardai carried out their investigations."
The scene was preserved yesterday evening for technical examination and a post mortem was due to be carried out by deputy state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.
