 ERC SUBSIDIARY RECEIVES MAJOR AWARD
DANBURY, Conn., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Research Corporation

(NASDAQ: ERCC, BSE: ERC) announced today the award to its wholly owned subsidiary, Fuel Cell Engineering Corporation, of a Cooperative Agreement with a government cost share in the amount of $16,348,608. The award is from the United States Department of Energy's Morgantown Energy Technology Center in Morgantown, W. Va.
This award will fund the production of Carbonate Fuel Cells as the power source for a 2-megawatt power plant field test in Santa Clara, California. This will be the largest Carbonate Fuel Cell power plant ever built in the world. The plant will be constructed and operated by ERC's Fuel Cell Engineering subsidiary. The fuel cells will be manufactured at ERC's Torrington, Connecticut facility.
The funding for the remainder of the power plant and its demonstration is being negotiated with a consortium of five California utilities, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the Electric Power Research Institute (Santa Clara Demonstration Project). The total cost of the power plant construction and test is approximately $47,000,000.
ERC president and chief executive officer, Dr. Bernard S. Baker stated: "This Cooperative Agreement represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to commercialize our Direct Fuel Cell technology."
ERC, located in Danbury and Torrington, Connecticut, is engaged in the commercialization of highly efficient and environmentally benign electric power generation equipment for utilities using Direct Fuel Cell technology, and in the development of advanced electric storage batteries.
