 ERC RECEIVES CONTRACT EXTENSION
DANBURY, Conn., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Research Corporation

(NASDAQ: ERCC, BSE: ERC) announced today that it has received a 14 month extension to its existing U.S. Navy contract, for the development of advanced nickel-cadmium batteries, which raises the dollar value from $1,304,619 to $1,985,427. Funding for the project is provided by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) through the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Dahlgren Division.
Under this contract, ERC will continue its development and testing of advanced 2000 ampere-hour size nickel-cadmium cells designed to be used by the Navy.
This contract award will keep ERC in the forefront of its unique high energy nickel-cadmium battery technology. Potential commercial spin offs include specialty off-road electric vehicles, electric wheel chairs, electric lawn mowers, and uninterruptable power systems. Smaller versions of this type of battery have already been approved for use in personal caplamp systems for miners.
ERC, located in Danbury and Torrington, Conn., is engaged in the development of advanced electric storage batteries and in the commercialization of highly efficient and environmentally benign electric power generation equipment for utilities using Direct Fuel Cell technology.
