ERC AWARDED ETHANOL STUDY CONTRACT

/REPEAT FROM YESTERDAY FOR NEEDED POINTS/
DANBURY, Conn., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Research Corporation

(NASDAQ: ERCC; BSE: ERC) announced today a contract award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). The contract will explore the technological and economic feasibility of using minimally processed ethanol to produce electricity in ERC's Direct Fuel Cell. NRECA is the Washington, D.C., based service organization that represents the nation's 1,000 non-profit consumer owned rural electric systems, which provide electric service to more than 25 millon people in 46 states.
Direct Fuel Cells generate electricity by processing fuels electrochemically rather than by combustion. The advantages of producing electricity in this manner include less pollution and higher efficiencies. Until now, ERC was focusing mainly on Direct Fuel Cells utilizing natural gas and coal gas. Ethanol powered fuel cells could allow rural cooperative utilities to use and sell electricity made from crops and to use high quality cogeneration heat for farming and dairy production.
ERC's Pinakin S. Patel, program manager for the project, stated: "The positive implications of ethanol powered Direct Fuel Cells are considerable. If the concept is feasible, it will present new opportunities for electric power production from another domestic fuel, as well as potential new markets for ERC technology."
ERC, located in Danbury and Torrington, Conn., is engaged in the commercialization of highly efficient and environmentally benign electric power generation equipment for utilities using its Direct Fuel Cell technology, and in the development of advanced electric storage batteries.
