EQUITY INVESTMENTS AND MDSI -- JOINT NEWS RELEASE MDSI SIGNS (U.S.) $1,000,000 CONTRACT WITH LILCO

 VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Data Solutions Inc. (MDSI) today announced receipt of a purchase order from the Long Island Lighting Co. (NYSE: LIL) (LILCO) for implementation of a Utility Computer Aided Dispatch System (U-CAD) for LILCO Gas Customer Service Department, to cover the Queens/Nassau, Western Suffolk, and Eastern Suffolk territories, as well as a roll-out of the U-CAD System for the LILCO Electric Service Department in the Western Suffolk Division.
 MDSI will be implementing the LILCO Gas Customer Service U-CAD System on an IBM RS6000 computer. A stand-by system complete with an additional processor and IBM disk mirroring will be implemented to ensure constant availability of the system in the event of an emergency. LILCO has also contracted with MDSI for five year, seven day-per-week, 24 hours-per-day maintenance and support. Total value of the contracts to MDSI is in excess of $1 million U.S.

 The MDSI Utility Computer Aided Dispatch System achieves the objective of effective real-time management of fleet and order activity by providing accurate and timely information to fleet management personnel, facilitating order load balancing to achieve service schedule commitments, replacing voice-over-radio communication with data-over- radio communication, and permitting information inquiry and database updates directly from the field. The MDSI U-CAD System is written in `C' language under the UNIX (AIX) operating system.
