EQUITABLE RESOURCES REPORTS ON COLOMBIAN DRILLING

PITTSBURGH, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Equitable Resources (NYSE: EQT) said today that the first well drilled by its Colombia, South America joint venture on each of two contract areas in the southern Llanos Basin showed the presence of hydrocarbons though in less than commercial quantities.
Equitable added that the venture is continuing to evaluate data from its other contract area, Cano Caranal located in the northern part of the basin, preliminary to the start of drilling now scheduled for early 1994.
The company said that the next phase of exploration for the two southern contract areas -- the Algarrobo and Cano Guirripo -- would evolve from further study and refinements in interpreting seismic and other data accumulated thus far. Under terms of the contract, additional drilling is not required before mid-1994.
Equitable Resources owns an approximate 25 percent working interest in the three Colombian properties through its Andex Energy subsidiary.
