EQUITABLE GAS TO FILE FOR RATE DECREASE

EQUITABLE GAS TO FILE FOR RATE DECREASE
PITTSBURGH, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Equitable Gas announced today

that it will file a rate decrease request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) on April 1 to reflect reduced rates for recovery of purchased gas costs beginning Oct. 1.
Equitable's cost of purchasing natural gas supplies is passed through to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Equitable's filing will represent a decrease in annual revenues of approximately $6.3 million. The decrease reflects the lower cost of natural gas the company purchases from producers and pipeline suppliers.
Under the proposed lower rates, the total bill for an average residential customer using 127 Mcf of gas per year, would decrease by approximately $24 a year, or about $2 per month.
This will be the second year in a row that Equitable's purchased gas cost rates have decreased. In September 1991, the PUC approved a $6 million reduction, which decreased an average residential customer's bill by $19 annually.
Equitable's purchased gas cost filing is pursuant to an annual procedure under which major gas companies are required to seek PUC approval of changes in customer rates to reflect actual and projected gas costs.
