EQUITABLE GAS FILES FOR RATE INCREASE

EQUITABLE GAS FILES FOR RATE INCREASE
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Equitable Gas is asking the

Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to grant it an increase in general rates to cover increased costs, including additional operations and maintenance expenses and investment in plant facilities to provide service to customers.
Equitable's request to increase annual revenues by $21 million, or about 6.9 percent, would raise the bill of a typical residential customer by about $6.60 per month. It would be the first general rate increase in approximately two years for Equitable customers, if the commission follows its usual practice and suspends the effective date until Oct. 1, 1992.
Equitable officials said the company's extensive efforts to control costs, including reductions in staff since its last filing, helped to keep the amount of its request below the level of inflation. They noted, however, that while moderating the increases, the savings could not entirely offset the higher costs necessary to maintain safe and reliable service to customers.
