EQUIFAX SUBSIDIARY RECEIVES CALIFORNIA LOTTERY CONTRACT

EQUIFAX SUBSIDIARY RECEIVES CALIFORNIA LOTTERY CONTRACT
ATLANTA, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Equifax Inc. (NYSE: EFX) announced today that High Integrity Systems Inc. (HISI), a subsidiary of Equifax, has been awarded a five-year contract to provide an automated instant ticket gaming system including 10,000 new low volume terminals to the California State Lottery.
The Lottery Commission awarded the contract to HISI in a 3-to-0 vote on March 25.
California Lottery officials said that HISI received the contract because of its technological advantages over competitors. Among the Lottery's requirements of contract bidders were terminals with low on- going operating costs, which HISI offered through the use of dial-up technology. This latest contract will double the number of California Lottery terminals and will automate scratcher ticket processing, lowering retailer handling costs and increasing player convenience. This five-year contract could involve revenues of $24 million per year.
Equifax President and Chief Executive Officer, C.B. Rogers Jr., said: "We're pleased with this recent announcement, and we see the California Lottery as an exciting new growth opportunity for our company. While the lottery industry is an entirely different type of business for us, it provides an ideal opportunity for us to employ much of the technology that has made Equifax so successful."
HISI President Shashi Kapur said: "We're pleased to have been selected as the winner of the California State Lottery contract. We expect our involvement to provide economic benefit to the education system in California and to help the Lottery Commission achieve its overall goals."
In response to the California Lottery Commission's contract award to HISI, two unsuccessful bidders, GTECH Corporation and AmTote International, went to court to seek to overturn the Commission's actions. A hearing date has been set for April 17.
Equifax is a Fortune 500 company and the leading provider of information to facilitate financial transactions between businesses and consumers. Revenues for the year ended Dec. 31, 1991, were more than $1 billion.
