A new line of EPDM rubber masterbatches is designed for use by compounders of thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) elastomers. Kelprox XL from DSM Elastomers, Leominster, Mass., combines DSM's Keltan EPDM with its Sarlink TPV know-how. The result is rubber masterbatches that are already dynamically vulcanized. Since the rubber in Kelprox XL is already crosslinked, compounders can produce TPV compounds without the cost and complexity of using their own vulcanization technology. Initial offerings of the product are in two hardnesses, 35 Shore A and 45 A, either fully or partially cured. The fully cured products are used to produce TPE compounds for demanding applications requiring superior hydrocarbon resistance, compression set, and high-temperature performance. Partially cured masterbatches are intended for compounds requiring optimum processability, colorability, and overall cosmetic appeal.
