EPA wastewater awards.

The Environmental Protection Agency selected 36 of the nation's 16,000 waste-water treatment plants to receive national awards for excellence for 1991 wastewater management.

The award categories were plant operations and maintenance, beneficial use of sludge, pretreatment, and storm water or combined sewer overflow management.

First place winners for Operations and Maintenance were: Warren WWTP, Warren, Mich.; Cibolo Creek, Schertz, Tex.; Kingsland Municipal, Kingsland, Tex.; Great Falls WWTP, Great Falls, Mont.; Broomfield WWTP, Broomfield, Colo.; Saukville WWTP, Saukville, Wisc.; Irvine Ranch, Irvine, Calif.; Boyd WWTP, Boyd, Wisc. and Snowflake WWTP, snowflake, Ariz.

First place winners for Beneficial Use of Sludge were Alpena WWTP, Alpena, Mich. and Omaha WWTP, Omaha, Neb.

First place winners for Pretreatment were the cities of: Leitchfield, Ky.; Alpena, Mich.; Sunnyvale, Calif. and Harrisburg, Pa.

First place winners for Stormwater and Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) control were the Murray City, Utah municipal storm water control program, and Monroe County/City of Rochester, N.Y., Pure Waters District combined sewer overflow control program.
