EPA teams clean oil spill near Mina Al-Ahmadi *****

KUWAIT, April 25 (KUNA) -- The Environment Public Authority teams have managed to remove a 300 meter long and 20 meter wide oil spill in the Gulf waters near Al Kut Mall and Mina Al-Ahmadi port, in the southern Al-Ahmadi Governorate, it was learned here on Friday.

In statements to KUNA, Director of EPA's Water Pollution Monitoring Department Hamza Karam said that the water pollution teams from Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) as well as the Coast Guards and Civil Defense forces have participated in the oil spill cleaning operation.

The teams have also surveyed a wide area around the discovered spill to check if there are any other pollution, Karam said.

He pointed out that the surveying teams have noticed the existence of water pollution in an area 500 meters long and 50 centimeters wide near Ahmadi refinery.

Oil absorbing barriers have been deployed in the area to soak up any oil spill or contaminants, he said.

He underlined that all relevant authorities are closely monitoring the pollution cleaning operations. (end) zak.abd.ibi
