ENVIROTEST SIGNS PENNSYLVANIA AUTO EMISSIONS TESTING CONTRACT

TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Envirotest Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: ENVI) today announced that it has signed a seven-year contract with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania under which Envirotest will test approximately 3 million vehicles annually over the term of the contract, beginning Jan. 1, 1995.
The company expects the Pennsylvania contract, which is the second largest ever awarded in the industry, to generate $60 million of annual revenues and $400 million in total backlog. The Pennsylvania contract is only surpassed by the seven-year New York downstate region contract, for which Envirotest was recently selected as the sole contractor. The downstate New York contract covers auto emissions testing for New York City and seven surrounding counties, and the program will test approximately 3.7 million cars per year.
Chester Davenport, chairman of Envirotest, stated: "We are very pleased to manage and conduct the auto emissions testing effort in Pennsylvania. We are committed to providing Pennsylvania and its people the best service possible and working with them to enhance the environment in which they live. We anticipate that, as a result of this contract, Envirotest will create approximately 2,900 jobs for the seven- year period throughout Pennsylvania."
With both the Pennsylvania and downstate New York contracts, Envirotest expects to increase its revenues from its current level of $90 million to $225 million, and its backlog from $300 million to $1.2 billion.
Envirotest Systems Corp. is the leading provider of centralized vehicle emissions testing programs for states and municipalities. In addition, Envirotest is the only provider of contractor-operated centralized testing services outside the United States.
