ENVIROSENSE(R) CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCES

 KENNESAW, Ga., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Envirosense Consortium Inc. announced today the expansion of its membership to include The Southern Company (NYSE: SO), headquartered in Atlanta.
 The Southern Company is the parent firm of one of the nation's largest investor-owned electric utility groups. The company includes five utilities -- Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power, and Savannah Electric -- as well as Southern Company Services, Southern Electric International, and Southern Nuclear.
 Lawrence L. Abblitt, chairman and executive director of Envirosense Consortium, stated: "We are pleased to have the expertise of The Southern Company and its subsidiaries as key players in our consortium. The Southern Company's proven leadership in environmental stewardship will add to the Envirosense Consortium's growing capabilities in providing the marketplace with the most current information and proactive solutions for addressing Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) concerns."
 The Envirosense Consortium is a non-profit organization composed of a strategic group of companies dedicated to raising the awareness of environmental issues facing building owners and facility managers, with its primary focus being on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). The consortium offers a "total systems" approach utilizing strict design, product, and maintenance systems criteria to promote a healthier environment in the workplace. Included in this group are architects, interior designers, IAQ consultants, engineers, environmental and maintenance firms, building owners, facility managers, and manufacturers of interior products and integrated HVAC systems.
