ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES SUBSIDIARY ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCT MADE FROM RECYCLED CARPET MATERIALS

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- United Recycling, Inc. (URI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Environmental Technologies USA, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENVR), announced that it has developed a prototype "tack strip" for carpet installation manufactured from recycled nylon carpet materials. URI management estimates that manufacturing and marketing of the product may begin in the Twin Cities by fall of 1993 subject to completion of tests to meet industry standards.
United Recycling, Inc., has been in a research and development stage since its founding three years ago. The tack strip can replace wood products currently used in carpet installation. Founder Charlie Pyle, Jr., formed the company after 30 years in the carpeting industry because he saw a need to find alternative uses for the millions of square feet of carpeting that are replaced every year. Currently, used carpeting is deposed of in landfills or by incineration.
"We're very excited to have developed a high-quality product for the carpet industry made from recycled carpet materials," said Pyle, now president of URI's Midwest Region. "The new resin tack strip from URI is designed to be strong, pliable and to cut easily. Early reaction to the prototype from carpet dealers has been very positive," Pyle added.
URI will be purchasing the equipment to manufacture the tack strip and will consider marketing and distribution through industry manufacturers according to URI President James Bonneville. "We currently plan to initially market the product in the Upper Midwest Region," Bonneville said.
Environmental Technologies USA, Inc., manufactures, markets, distributes and develops biodegradable and recycled substitutes for virgin plastic polymers. United Recycling, Inc., of St. Louis Park, Minn., converts post-consumer carpeting into polymer resin suitable for remanufacturing.
