BALTIMORE, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Elements Corporation (NYSE: EEC) today announced that it has received four air pollution control system contracts totaling approximately $10 million.
The company has received an award from Carolina Power & Light for a replacement dry electrostatic precipitator on its Roxboro Plant, Unit No. 1 in Roxboro, N.C., which is scheduled for delivery in the spring of 1995.
The company also recently received a contract from Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems for six wet electrostatic precipitators for a new sulfuric acid plant Monsanto is supplying to Kennecott Utah Copper as part of Kennecott's new copper smelter currently under construction. The precipitators are scheduled for delivery in the summer of 1994.
Additionally, the company has received smaller contracts from two pulp and paper customers.
 F. Bradford Smith, president and chief executive officer, commented, "These contract awards demonstrate our continued success in gaining a market presence in the power generation market and our ability to expand our industrial market opportunities. The utility market has been slow to develop, but we have made great strides in the power market with recent precipitator, fabric filter and dry scrubber awards. As a result, we believe we are in excellent position to benefit from this very large market through the end of the decade. The Monsanto award is another example of our broad base of experience in the industrial market, and more specifically in the metals industry. As the economy improves, we hope for improved demand in the many industrial markets we serve. The pulp and paper awards may be an early indication of a potential upswing in demand from this important customer base.
"In the past few months we have restructured our organization to better serve our markets and reduce costs. Although we continue to expect operating losses for the remainder of this fiscal year, our restructuring, coupled with these awards and indications of increased market opportunities, cause us to look forward to fiscal 1995 with growing confidence."
