ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN REFLECTED IN JEEP-EAGLE ADVERTISING

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The environmental concerns of various governmental agencies and land-use groups will once again be reflected in an upcoming marketing campaign for the Jeep-Eagle Division of Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C).
For the fifth consecutive year, an environmental council has been invited by Jeep-Eagle executives to review the division's print and television advertising and merchandising materials, such as product catalogs. The council is made up of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the United Four Wheel Drive Association and the University of Washington. The academic membership is rotated among leading universities with land management curriculum.
"We've made a long-standing effort to be environmentally responsible, long before it became politically correct," said L.W. Baker, general manager of the Jeep-Eagle Division. "For example, we only show Jeep(R) products in settings that include an approved road or trail."
The council members come to Detroit once a year to review the following model year's creative work and are on call year round.
During a break in its review meeting this week, the council toured Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The plant has received three awards recognizing design innovations in pollution prevention. They include the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Administrator's Award, the EPA's Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award and the President's Environment and Conservation Challenge Award. Chrysler was the first automotive company to receive this award.
