ENTREPRENEURSHIP : EXECUTIVE EXPLORES NEW ACTIONS.

Creating single points of contact for taxation and financial reporting, simplifying licensing and permit procedures, granting the same social security protection to entrepreneurs and employees: these are some of the measures the European Commission plans to include this autumn in its action plan on entrepreneurship (see Europolitics 4445). On 17 July, it launched a public consultation inviting stakeholders to submit their ideas (by 1 October) on future actions that could be taken at European, national and regional level to encourage entrepreneurship.

The Commission proposes, for example, to develop and make public platforms and marketplaces for successful businesses. It also wishes to make available specific financial instruments for entrepreneurs who start a new activity after a bankruptcy. In addition to measures to improve access to finance, it proposes to improve the tax environment in the early stages of starting up a business.

The Commission also invites stakeholders to submit suggestions for specific measures for young people, women, seniors and minorities, which will be debated.

It advances the idea of educating for entrepreneurship in schools and universities.

Other options mentioned in the consultation include: the availability of adequate child/dependent care facilities; giving the same maternity rights to women entrepreneurs as to employees; or offering grants to unemployed seniors to become entrepreneurs.
