ENJOY THE SUMMER GAMES AFTER THEY'RE OVER
 WITH ACCOLADE'S SUMMER CHALLENGE
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- As the world's greatest athletes prepare for the challenge and competition of the upcoming Summer Games in Barcelona, Accolade, a publisher of entertainment software, prepares to release Summer Challenge(TM), a simulation for IBM PC and compatible computers that pits computer athletes together in an international contest for the gold medal. Race to your personal computer and get ready to compete in eight grueling summer sport events including the Pole Vault, High Jump, Javelin, 400 Meter Hurdles, Cycling, Kayaking, Equestrian and Archery. Summer Challenge is scheduled to release this summer at a suggested retail price of $54.95.
In Summer Challenge, up to 10 computer athletes can compete one at a time, each in control of his/her own world-class athlete. Players are selected from a roster containing the athlete's name and country of origin and can compete in one of two modes of play -- training (practice each event) or tournament (compete against computer or human opponents). In the eight-event tournament mode, computer athletes can compete against three different skill levels of computer competitors.
Summer challenge includes an Instant Replay feature to allow computer athletes to re-live the glory of their best performances again and again. This high caliber athletic event is complete with the pomp and circumstance of opening and closing ceremonies.
To provide computer athletes with a true feeling of being in the heat of the competition, Summer Challenge imports footage of contestants who have been digitally captured from live video footage of actual athletes performing in the same events. "The simulation of speed and motion really makes you feel like you're in the shoes of the competitor as you maneuver your kayak between the gates or as you run and jump over hurdles," said Pam Levins, producer of the game.
Incredible attention has been paid to other details, including fine- tuning the controls to duplicate as closely as possible the movements, tactics and strategy of the real events. A blend of 3-D polygon-fill graphics and digitized bit-mapped images in 256-color VGA graphics, together with digitized sound effects, complete a super-realistic environment.
Summer Challenge brings together a variety of summer sports events and provides computer athletes more than a glimpse of what it is like to compete in them. Played individually or as the main attraction at a party, the challenge comes in beating your own record and that of your competitors' time and time again.
