ENGLISH CHINA CLAYS NAMES MEAD EXECUTIVE TO HEAD U.S. INDUSTRIAL MINERALS BUSINESS

 NEW YORK, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- English China Clays plc (NYSE: ENC), the world's leading producer of kaolin, today announced that Dennis L. Rediker, 49, will join the company to head its U.S. industrial minerals business based in Atlanta.
 Mr. Rediker had been with Mead Corporation for the past ten years, most recently as president of the company's coated board division. Before Mead, Mr. Rediker had been with IBM Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he majored in electrical engineering.
 Commenting on the announcement, Andrew Teare, English China Clays' chief executive officer, said: "We are pleased to have recruited an executive of Dennis' stature to English China Clays. His wide business experience, particularly of our major customer industry, will be helpful in managing our growing U.S. industrial minerals business."
 English China Clays is the world's leading producer of kaolin, one of the most important minerals used in the manufacture of paper. The company is also a major supplier of calcium carbonate, ball clay and other industrial minerals and is one of the largest suppliers of pre-cast concrete products in the United Kingdom. The company's construction materials activities also include the production of aggregates and coated stone. English China Clays' U.S. operations are headquartered in Atlanta. The United States accounts for approximately 20 percent of the company's sales, 30 percent of its profits and 40 percent of its asset base.
