ENGLANDER'S FURNITURE HOLDS CHARITY CHRISTMAS TREE TRIM-OFF KICK-OFF PARTY, MONDAY, NOV. 23

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- Englander's Birmingham Showroom will be transformed into a yuletide forest today, Monday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m., when two dozen elaborately trimmed Christmas trees are unveiled in the Kick-Off Party for Englander's Annual Christmas Tree Trim-Off.
The party is the official opening ceremony for the charity Christmas Tree decorating contest, for which each of the 24 trees has been trimmed by a different non-profit organization.
The trees will be scattered throughout the store for browsing by showroom visitors, all competing for contribution votes as the "Best Decorated." One vote is a $1 contribution to the respective charity, with no limit on the amount donated or the number of trees voted upon. The organization whose tree wins will receive a $1,000 grand prize contribution from Englander's, with second- and third-place finishers receiving $500 and $250, respectively.
The official poster will also be unveiled today with a scholarship prize awarded to its designer, Julie King of Royal Oak. King, a senior student at the Center for Creative Studies, will receive a $500 check from Englander's President Barry Wayburn for creating the winning entry in the Trim-Off's Poster Contest.
Also attending the affair will be guest judges of the poster contest, artist Richard Koslow and WJR AM host Warren Pierce.
Voting for the Trim-Off will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 29, 5:30 p.m., just prior to the awards presentation at 6 p.m.
Last year's Trim-Off raised $80,000, and this year Englander's hopes to surpass that figure.
Englander's Furniture is at 501 E. Maple Road, at Hunter Boulevard, in Birmingham.
