ENGELHARD CORP., ICC TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCE JOINT PROGRAM TO CREATE

DESICCANT-BASED DEHUMIDIFICATION SYSTEMS FOR AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
ISELIN, N.J., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Engelhard Corporation (NYSE: EC) and ICC Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ICGN) have announced a joint development program to create critical components of desiccant- based dehumidification systems for use in air-conditioning units.
The program will combine Engelhard's expertise in zeolite science and advanced desiccants with ICC's engineering system and HVAC industry experience.
Dehumidification is important in air-conditioning units because dryer air is easier to cool than humid air. When a desiccant system is added to a conventional air-conditioning unit, its size can be vastly reduced, resulting in energy savings, less CFC usage and lower up front capital costs.
The Engelhard-ICC effort will initially focus on large commercial applications, including supermarkets, hotels/motels and department stores. Further development will focus on high efficiencey residential air-conditioning systems, which will not require the use of refrigerants such as CFC's and HCFC's, which are known ozone depleters. Such systems could be substantially more energy efficient and could provide for better indoor air quality and greater comfort.
ICC Technologies Inc., headquartered in Philadelphia, develops innovative, efficient space conditioning technologies to address the needs of today's commercial marketplace.
Engelhard Corporation is a world-leading provider of speciality chemicals, engineered materials and precious metals management services.
