ENERGY RESEARCH CORPORATION SUBSIDIARY ANNOUNCES SALES REPRESENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH UNITED POWER ASSOCIATION

DANBURY, Conn., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Research Corporation (NASDAQ Small Cap: ERCC; BSE) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Fuel Cell Engineering Corporation (FCE), has entered into a sales representative agreement with United Power Association (UPA), Elk River, Minn. The agreement establishes UPA as the exclusive marketer and seller of FCE's commercial Direct Fuel Cell power plants in the five-state territory of Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. UPA is a rural electric cooperative that provides wholesale electric power to 15 member rural electric systems in Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.
Fuel Cell Engineering Corporation is the ERC subsidiary responsible for Direct Fuel Cell power plant product definition, engineering design, marketing and sales, and servicing functions. Fuel cells generate electricity by means of a clean, efficient electrochemical process, using fuels such as natural gas and coal-gas. FCE's major focus is the commercialization of utility-scale power plants based on its unique Direct Fuel Cell design. FCE's approach is to factory-assemble fuel cell stacks and balance-of-plant equipment in modules that can be trucked to the customer's power plant site. The modules can then be readily connected and operated with minimal field construction labor and time.
UPA is a member of the Fuel Cell Commercialization Group (FCCG), a buyers' organization formed to promote the commercial availability of carbonate fuel cells developed by ERC. The FCCG's 40 members include investor and municipally owned electric and gas utilities and rural electric cooperatives in North America.
Energy Research Corporation, located in Danbury and Torrington, Conn., is commercializing highly efficient and environmentally benign electric power generation equipment for utilities using its Direct Fuel Cell technology. ERC also develops advanced storage batteries for commercial and defense applications.
