ENDER THE NIGHT.

Beeb bosses shunt soap omnibus to early hours WOULD you Adam and Eve it... BBC bosses have dumped the EastEnders' Sunday omnibus.

The weekend afternoon repeats were once as much of a tradition for millions of fans as a Queen Vic knees-up.

But the BBC have shunted it from the popular slot after 27 years to free up their schedule for the Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Euro 2012.

The omnibus, featuring Albert Square faves such as Dot Cotton and Phil Mitchell, will now air late on Friday nights on BBC1 and run into the early hours. Furious soap fans yesterday claimed the BBC had lost the plot.

On Digital Spy, one viewer blasted: "This is so stupid. The Sunday omnibus is tradition. Who'll watch it at that time?" Another called The Abott added: "Loyal viewers will stop watching." The shake-up kicked in last Friday but was only confirmed on Tuesday.

A show spokesman said: "Viewers now catch up on EastEnders through digital recorders, our BBC3 repeat or on iPlayer. We've therefore decided to move the omnibus."

The first late-night omnibus last Friday lured 477,000 viewers, compared to 792,000 the previous Sunday.

No shows will take the Sunday slot permanently until after summer.
