INCENTIVE PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE CHEMICAL GROUP OF MONSANTO
DETROIT, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Halfway through Project Get Rolling, a six-month auto incentive program, more than 2,000 employees of the Chemical Group of Monsanto Company have purchased new 1992 vehicles. The program to date has generated an estimated $25 million in new car sales.
In effect from Feb. 1 to July 31, Project Get Rolling provides The Chemical Group's roughly 12,000 North American employees with $1,000 toward the purchase or lease of a new car, van, utility vehicle of light truck assembled in the U.S., Canada or Mexico. The program applies to vehicles assembled by U.S. domestic automakers as well as by transnational firms.
The U.S. domestic manufactures -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler -- all offered matching incentive programs shortly after the Chemical Group announced Project Get Rolling, and their vehicles account for most of the cars bought. The balance include North American built vehicles from Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.
We're very pleased with the enthusiastic response Project Get Rolling has generated among employees and our automotive industry customers," said the Chemical Group President Robert G. Potter. "And we're gratified that industry suppliers companies followed our initiative. The 2,000 purchases have pumped an estimated $25 million into the North-American automotive industry. Not only have manufacturers, dealers and Monsanto employees benefited, but so have financial institutions. And we're sure that impact will grow by the program's end on July 31," Potter added.
The Chemical Group is the largest operating unit of St. Louis-based Monsanto Company. Last year, sales to the worldwide automotive industry accounted for approximately $1 billion of MCC's $4 billion in sales, making the company one of the nation's leading industry suppliers.
Among MCC products marketed to the auto industry are Saflex interlayer for laminated windshields; a broad portfolio of engineering plastics for interior and exterior trim and under-the-hood applications, rubber chemicals for tires, hoses and belts; resins for paint and adhesives; fibers for seat covers and carpeting; and phosphate compound used in metal treatment.
