EMMA TROUSERS THE PRIZE; GOLDEN GLOBES WINNERS AND LOSERS ON HOLLYWOOD RED CARPET; Never mind the movies - which stylish stars won admirers on the red carpet?

THE Golden Globes is the opener to the awards season and a must-watch for fashion fans too.

Cate Blanchett and Amy Adams took two of the big prizes and they battled other female stars on the red carpet for the title of best-dressed.

But all those weeks of preparation and the advice of top stylists can also result in a serious fashion faux pas.

So who got it right and who got it wrong? While we run through the official victors below, Melanie Harvey hands out her own Golden Globe awards.

Not everyone could pull off this dress/cape combo but 12 Years a Slave star looked stunning

Sofia Vergara

Old school glamour all the way, teaming voluminous Zac Posen gown with statement necklace

Dolce & Gabbana dress and shirt looked great at the bottom but the top was too masculine

There was something about the pink Dior Haute Couture dress that didn't show Jen at her best

Elisabeth Moss

Oxblood J Mendel dress was a winner but tousled hair wasn't quite right for the red carpet

Lena Durham

Doesn't follow the crowd but got it right in curve-clinging canary yellow Zac Posen gown

Zooey Deschanel

Showed off her love of vintage in Oscar de la Renta ensemble, with a flower in her hair Naomi Watts Stood out in tight-fitting silver Tom Ford dress with chunky gold necklace

Uma Thurman

Looked too severe in this Atelier Versace dress, teamed with Chopard jewels

Kate Beckinsale

Awards presenter wore metallic fishtail Zuhair Murad and messy updo hair was a winner too

Victoria Hervey

You could argue this Gaurav Gupta dress was brave. Or you could say it was just wrong.

Helen Mirren

Flew flag for Britain in a bright green Jenny Packham gown, perfect for her

Cate Blanchett

Best Actress winner scored on the red carpet too in elegant lace and tulle Armani Prive gown

Emma Watson Looked like she had dressed for fashion week in a red Dior dress, over cropped tight trousers and blue shoes - but it worked
