EMERY WORLDWIDE APPOINTS GALLAGHER AS
PHARMACEUTICAL AND HEALTH CARE SALES DIRECTOR
PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Emery Worldwide announced today it has appointed Vincent F. Gallagher as director of pharmaceutical and health care sales for the air freight company.
A 13-year veteran in air freight marketing, Gallagher will focus on Emery Worldwide's special logistics services available to pharmaceutical and health care products companies in an industry now faced with increasingly stringent regulations governing the shipment of their products.
According to W. Roger Curry, president and chief executive officer of Emery Worldwide, drug manufacturers are recognizing that integrated air freight carriers are uniquely suited to meet Food and Drug Administration requirements for accuracy, security and accountability in their supply and delivery systems, in addition to the consistent, time- definite service required in such a highly competitive field.
With the passage of the Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1988, pharmaceutical companies must have total control of the transportation process, including an authorized signature for every drug shipment, regardless of location or time and day of delivery.
Emery provides health care products companies with highly sophisticated control systems ranging from constant personal surveillance to computerized tracking and tracing from pick up to delivery, all within Emery's regular airlift network for North America and to international points. These special services also include refrigeration and temperature maintenance capabilities, which are required by sensitive pharmaceuticals such as serums and vaccines that must be shipped under constant temperature control to maintain product quality and integrity.
"Emery already has domestic and international services with 'pallet integrity' throughout its control systems," Curry said. "We also have daily scheduled air cargo service to Puerto Rico, one of the most concentrated areas for pharmaceutical manufacturing."
In addition to these various control systems, Curry said, Emery has an inventory warehousing and distribution system called WISE that provides control of all aspects of logistic management for a company, from incoming ingredients for the manufacturing process through to delivery of finished drugs to a company's sales network, even if numbering in the thousands.
"As the industry becomes more and more competitive, especially on a global basis, time-definite delivery capability becomes more acute," Curry noted. "With that, the industry relies on air cargo companies that can address their specific needs immediately.
"Vince Gallagher brings to the Emery marketing team depth of experience and specific knowledge of the pharmaceutical business," said David I. Beatson, vice president-sales and marketing. "That expertise is a competitive edge for Emery that cuts quickly to the core of their specific logistical needs. We can help pharmaceutical companies meet stringent government delivery regulations while using transportation resources to the full advantage for their customers," Beatson said.
Gallagher is based in Philadelphia. He was previously with American Airlines and Flying Tiger where he held various sales and marketing managerial positions on both the district and regional levels. He earned an M.B.A. degree in marketing and health care administration from Temple University in 1978.
In addition to the special marketing program for the pharmaceutical and health care industries, Emery also has special marketing programs for government, automotive, convention and trade shows, apparel and textile, and the construction and energy industries, each headed by marketing directors with extensive air freight experience in those specific fields.
Emery Worldwide is a $1.3 billion air freight company with 245 terminal and service locations in North America and 88 countries. Emery provides professional transportation services to support the expedited traffic and logistics needs of retailing, manufacturing and industrial customers. The Emery network accepts any size commercial heavy freight shipment.
