EMERGENCY OPERATING CENTER ACTIVATED DUE TO LAST NIGHT'S EARTHQUAKE
WHO: San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)
WHAT: Emergency Operating Center (EOC) has been activated due to
last night's earthquake in the desert.
WHEN: For the next 72 hours, or as long as advised by the State of
 California.
WHERE: Auditorium of the Electric Building, First and Ash Streets,
 downtown San Diego.
WHY: To insure the integrity of its system and continued service to its customers, Jack Thomas, president of SDG&E, ordered the opening of the EOC this morning in the unlikely event that there are powerful aftershocks. The State of California has advised San Diego County and five other counties to maintain a "state of preparedness" for the next 72 hours. SDG&E's electric and gas system suffered no damage from the recent earthquakes.
NOTE: The communications center is located in two sections of the company's main auditorium. Unless otherwise directed, maintain media communications through SDG&E's regular media office, 619-696-4292, or by calling 619-491-3639 between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., or on weekends or holidays.
CONTACT: Fred Vaughn of SDG&E, 619-696-4308.
