EMC and Unisys Federal Systems form teaming initiative.

HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 1996--

New Agreement Extends EMC's Federal Government Reach; Enables

Unisys to Market Full Suite of EMC Products

EMC Corporation and Unisys Federal Systems Division (FSD) today announced an agreement that extends EMC's reach into the U.S. federal government sector by enabling Unisys FSD to resell and market the full suite of EMC mainframe and open systems storage solutions, including Symmetrix 5000 and Symmetrix 3000 intelligent storage systems.

Under the agreement, EMC and Unisys FSD will work together to identify new customer leads and develop joint marketing initiatives for select opportunities within the federal government. Unisys FSD is now able to provide its customers with a broader range of storage options through EMC's leading solutions for mainframes, open systems platforms, and a combination of both on a single storage system.

Symmetrix ESP was the industry's first information storage solution to combine simultaneous mainframe-class I/O performance and continuous data availability for heterogeneous CPU platforms, including mainframes and open systems. The market-leading Symmetrix 3000 and 5000 Integrated Cached Disk Array (ICDA) systems provide scalable, high-performance, high-availability storage for IBM-compatible mainframes and all major open systems platforms, and can support up to 32 different servers simultaneously.

"The federal government generates and processes huge amounts of critical information each day and IT managers are tasked with making sure that information is properly managed and is available when it is needed," said Al Kennedy, EMC's manager of Federal Government Operations. "The solutions offered by Unisys Federal Systems and EMC are ideally suited for these types of mission-critical applications. We look forward to working with FSD, as they have tremendous experience and have had significant success in the federal government. This relationship will enable EMC to tap into these resources to broaden its presence in the federal government sector." "By teaming with EMC, we can provide new and existing federal customers with one source for the products they need in large, enterprise installations that often span thousands of users," said Joe Santamaria, vice president and general manager, Information Technology, Unisys Federal Systems Division. "With EMC's leadership in the mainframe and open system storage markets, we now can deliver best-of-class storage solutions to our customers as seamlessly as possible."

EMC has been an OEM provider of storage systems to Unisys since 1992 and was teamed with Unisys FSD on two IRS awards, the Service Center Support System contract and the Storage Peripheral Replacement contract.
