EMBASSY OF YUGOSLAVIA REPORTS CROATIAN ARMED FORMATIONS PERPETRATED A HEINOUS CRIME' AGAINST UNPROTECTED SERBIAN POPULATION IN CROATIA
WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Embassy of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia issued the following:
According to information and reports of the Federal Secretariat of Labor, Health and Veterans Affairs, the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations in Yugoslavia, as well as according to press reports and the account of refugees, on Nov. 2, 3 and 4, the Croatian armed formations perpetrated a heinous crime against the unprotected Serbian population in Croatia in the region of Daruvar and Grubisino Polje and the surrounding areas. There are no units of the Yugoslav People's Army stationed in these areas. Strong Croatian armed formations used missiles, artillery and infantry weapons in the attack in which 17 Serbian villages were raised to the ground and burnt. The villages are as follows: Gornja Kovacica, Zrinjska, Sibenik, Ceremusina, Topolovica, Mala Jasenovaca, Velika Barna, Velika Peratovica, Mala Peratovica, Brdjani, Velika Dapcevica, Mala Dapcevica, Loncarica, Gornja Rasenica, selo Turcevic Polje, Dijakovac, Mali Grdjevac and the Serbian part of the town of Grubisino Polje.
The villages of Lasovac, Ribnjaca, Cadjevac, Backovica and Bedenicka where the Serbs are majority population suffered partial damage.
A large number of refugees, 3,500 of whom have arrived in Banja Luka, the republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the officials of the Red Cross speak of the massacre by the Croatian armed forces against those villagers who did not succeed in fleeing or did not want to abandon their homes. Another 10,000 refugees are heading in convoys towards safety. The refugees tell of numerous cases of atrocities. The Yugoslav presidency launched an appeal on the European and U.S. governments to intercede and prevent the criminal conduct of the Croatian armed forces.
The Presidency of the S.F.R. of Yugoslavia insisted that representatives of the observer mission of the European community in Yugoslavia visit these areas and see for themselves the crimes committed against the Serbian population in Western Slavonia, since the Croatian authorities do not allow such reports to reach the public.
