EMBARC TO HOST WIRELESS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP AT SPRING COMDEX

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Software developers who want to capitalize on the growing wireless messaging and mobile computing markets have been invited to a special seminar at Spring COMDEX, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) announced today.
The company will introduce a wide range of software development tools at a wireless workshop and reception on Wednesday, May 26, at the Omni (Hotel) Conference Center in Atlanta.
The workshop will cover applications used with Motorola's EMBARC wireless messaging network and focus on wireless database updates. It will include an overview of network operations and features, followed by hands-on sessions with:
 -- Wireless E-mail messaging
 -- Wireless file transfers
 -- Wireless database updates
 -- Wireless application launches
-- Direct wireless delivery to FAX machines and printers
Developers with application proposals accepted by Motorola will receive API specifications and a developer's tool kit for specific platforms. The tool kits include a sample code, libraries, examples of database "over the air" applications and file transfer utility created from the libraries, and wireless receiver and driver software. In addition, each recipient will be assigned a free developer's account on the EMBARC network.
"We are going to provide marketing as well as development support for qualified, EMBARC-enabled software programs to help them move out of design and into the market," said Steve Brendle, vice president and general manager of EMBARC Communication Services Inc. "We can support developers on one of three levels. First, we'll offer the opportunity to ally with developers by putting their products in our product portfolio and actively marketing them. Second, we can certify programs as EMBARC compatible and recommend them to buyers. Finally, if the developer prefers, we'll just provide our API and leave all the marketing and support to them."
Developers who have created an application using the DBF file structure and would like to see it automatically updated over EMBARC at the conference should contact Darrell Diem at 407-364-3151. To register for the conference, call Cathy Cunningham at 312-988-2740.
