ELTON SPARKLES ON BROADWAY.

ELTON John donned a tiara, dangling earrings and rhinestone slippers as he strolled on to a New York stage accompanied by eight bare-chested chorus boys and sang Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend.

The occasion was a fund-raiser for the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

"I'm a newcomer here," Elton told a cheering audience at the New Amsterdam Theatre. "I am very happy to be on Broadway."

He closed the evening with his hit Circle of Life, from The Lion King.
