ELTON JOHN SIGNS NEW POLYGRAM DEAL

ELTON JOHN SIGNS NEW POLYGRAM DEAL
NEW YORK, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, March 20, superstar

Elton John signed a new contract with PolyGram for up to six albums.
This deal is particularly significant because, following delivery of the next two albums, for which MCA has North American rights, PolyGram will acquire worldwide rights in Elton John's future recordings. PolyGram will also acquire the North American rights to these two albums as well as Elton John's back catalog once MCA's rights expire, with the result that PolyGram will then own the rights to Elton John's existing and future catalog for the world.
In a career which has spanned 25 five years, Elton John has sold approximately 100 million albums. He signed his first contract as a writer in 1967 and released his debut album "Empty Sky" with Dick James Music in 1969. He made 14 albums with Dick James Music including classics such as "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Captain Fantastic." His relationship with PolyGram began in 1977 and in 1978 he set up his own label, Rocket. On Rocket, he has made a further 12 studio albums including "Too Low for Zero" and "Sleeping With the Past." In 1990, he released the hugely successful "Very Best of..."
Alain Levy, PolyGram president and chief executive officer, comments: "We have had a long association with Elton which dates back 15 years. It has provided us with great successes and we take great joy in working with so much talent surrounded by such a professional team. We are extremely proud to continue the association and extend it at a later date to include North America.
John Reid of John Reid Enterprises, Elton John's management, comments: "I believe that the new PolyGram worldwide agreement, covering North America for the first time, will herald a new era of effectiveness in the international marketing of both new and existing product. Elton's relationship with Phonogram began in 1977 and we're delighted that it is set to continue."
