ELIZABETH C. OGIE AND MASON H. LAMPTON JOIN SYNOVUS FINANCIAL CORP. BOARD

 COLUMBUS, Ga., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- James H. Blanchard, chairman of the board of Synovus Financial Corp. (NYSE: SNV), today announced that Elizabeth C. Ogie and Mason H. Lampton have joined the board of directors of Synovus Financial Corp.
 Ogie is chairman of the board of trustees of Andrew College, and serves on several boards of directors, including, Columbus Bank and Trust Company, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center, W.C. Bradley Co., The Bradley-Turner Foundation, The Bradley Center, Columbus Regional Council on Child Abuse, and Girl's Inc. (formerly Girls Club of Columbus, of which she is past president).
 Ogie has been actively involved in philanthropic work in the Columbus area for a number of years. She has received bachelors degrees from Columbus College and Georgia State University.
 Ogie recently received the 1993 "Woman of Achievement" award presented by the Columbus Girl Scouts. She currently serves on the executive committees of the local United Way and the Historic Columbus Foundation, and on the Education Committee of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
 Lampton, president, chief executive officer and sole owner of The Hardaway Company, joined The Hardaway Company in 1977 as vice president and chief operating officer, and was appointed its president and chief executive officer in 1980. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1969.
 Lampton serves on several boards of directors, including those of Total System Services, Inc.; Columbus Bank and Trust Company; the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; Hardaway Foundation, Inc.; and Uptown Columbus, Inc. (of which he is a co-founder).
 Lampton is the founder and race chairman of The Columbus Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens. He is a past president of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and received its Business of the Year Award in 1986.
 James H. Blanchard, in making the announcement, stated: "Elizabeth and Mason are welcome additions to the Synovus Board. Each has served in a wide variety of community oriented leadership roles, and each has strong historical ties to our company. We are delighted to have them serve on our board, and look forward to their immediate contributions."
