ELF ATOCHEM ANNOUNCES NEW NAME FOR M & T HARSHAW AND THE ELECTROPLATING DIVISION OF SCHERING AG

BERLIN, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Elf Atochem has announced a new name for M & T Harshaw and the Electroplating Division of Schering AG; the new name is Atotech.
With sales exceeding FF 2 billion ($375 million US), Atotech will be the largest manufacturer in the world marketing specialty chemicals and systems to the plating industry. Atotech employs more than 1,600 people, with locations in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia. Worldwide headquarters are in Berlin.
Elf Atochem formed Atotech by acquiring the Electroplating Division of Schering AG and merging it with its subsidiary, M & T Harshaw. Elf Atochem is the FF 50 billion ($9 billion US) chemical arm of the Elf Group (NYSE: ELF), headquartered in Paris.
"Complementary is the key word," said Jacques Denis, the new Atotech president. "M & T Harshaw offers international distribution and marketing. Schering brings additional research and technology, especially in printed circuit boards for electronics. This is a good fit. Atotech will provide customers superior service support and a broader line of products."
Chemcut, the Schering Berlin subsidiary located in State College, Pa., and a supplier to the printed circuit board industry, will also come under the Atotech umbrella.
Atotech is a global company serving the electronic, decorative and functional plating markets with a broad range of products, processes, equipment, and superior service capabilities.
