ELEK-TEK, INC. OPENS COMPUTER SUPERSTORE IN INDIANAPOLIS; OPENING MARKS INITIAL EXPANSION BEYOND CHICAGO AREA

SKOKIE, Ill., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Elek-Tek, Inc. (NASDAQ: ELEK), a leading Midwest microcomputer hardware and software retailer, today announced that it opened a computer superstore in the Indianapolis area. The opening of the superstore, Elek-Tek's fifth in the Midwest and its first outside of the Chicago area, marks the first step in a regional expansion campaign. The company plans to open two more superstores in 1994.
Elek-Tek chose to expand into Indianapolis because of the area's attractive demographics, its strong base of computer users and its proximity to Elek-Tek's corporate headquarters in Skokie, Ill., according to Hal S. Goldman, president and chief executive officer. "Targeting our expansion to the Midwest also allows us to maintain the integrity of our services and product offerings," he said.
Goldman continued, "As the first specialty computer superstore in the Indianapolis area, Elek-Tek, will offer Indianapolis consumers something they've not had before -- an unbeatable selection of microcomputer equipment at discounted prices, backed by a strong commitment to services and a sales staff that's one of the most highly trained in the industry."
"A centralized management and distribution network ensures that each Elek-Tek location is consistent in the breadth of products as well as the level and quality of service it provides," commented Goldman.
The Indianapolis area Elek-Tek superstore will carry an extensive selection of computer hardware and software at discounted prices, and will offer a number of services to assist consumers before and after a purchase. The Elek-Tek superstore will carry more than 8,000 products from well-known manufacturers such as Apple, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Novell and Word Perfect, among others.
Elek-Tek, Inc., is a full line, Midwest retailer of microcomputer hardware, software and related accessories and supplies. The company's success is based on the simple philosophy of offering customers a wide selection of products at discounted prices and backing those products with a commitment to customer service and a highly trained and knowledgeable sales staff. Elek-Tek currently operates four microcomputer retail centers ("superstores") in the Chicago metropolitan area and a fifth store in Indianapolis. Elek-Tek also sells its products through a direct sales force and a mail order operation to individuals, businesses, institutions and government agencies. The company recently completed an initial public offering of 1.5 million shares of common stock. Sales for the 1992 calendar year were $176.2 million.
