ELECTRONICS EXPORTS GROWTH RATE REMAINS HEALTHY DESPITE SLUGGISH WORLD ECONOMIES

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Electronic Industries Association (EIA) announced today that U.S. exports of electronics products reached more than $41 billion for the first half of 1993, representing a growth rate of 8.5 percent over last year's record exports of $37.8 billion during the same period.
Imports of foreign electronics reached $46.8 billion in the first half of 1993, or 15.9 percent over last year's first half imports of $40.4 billion.
The trade balance in electronics reflects a deficit of approximately $5,746 billion.
In announcing the trade statistics, EIA President Peter F. McCloskey stated: "Although U.S. exports continue to show substantial growth, imports are growing at an even faster rate. This is due to the strengthening of the U.S. economy while the Asian and European markets remain weak."
For more than 69 years, the Electronic Industries Association has been the national trade organization representing U.S. electronics manufacturers. Committed to the competitiveness of the American producer, EIA represents the entire spectrum of companies involved in the manufacture of electronic components, parts, systems and equipment for communications, industrial, government and consumer-end uses.
