ELECTRONIC ARTS SHIPS NBA LIVE 97 FOR PLAYSTATION; EA SPORTS Debuts State-of-the-Art Motion Capture Technology with Olympic Dream Team III Member & NBA Star Mitch Richmond.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 26, 1996--Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced the shipment of NBA Live 97 for the PlayStation. NBA Live 97 features fast, strategic gameplay and 3-D polygonal players that incorporate the use of state-of-the-art motion capture technology, where Olympic Dream Team III gold medal winner and NBA star Mitch Richmond has been digitized into the game to provide authentic animations and player graphics. For enhanced competitive gameplay, NBA Live 97 also features a multiplayer option allowing up to eight people to play simultaneously.

In addition to NBA Live 97's motion captured polygonal animations that result in fluid driving, dunking, dribbling, and passing, the game delivers over 400 real NBA players, including all rookies and free agents, with updated career and 1995-96 statistics. EA SPORTS owns the exclusive interactive rights to Shaquille O'Neal, and NBA Live 97 is the only NBA game on the market that includes him. All 29 teams and two all-star teams are featured with current rosters, including Shaq on the Los Angeles Lakers, Larry Johnson on the New York Knicks and Kenny Anderson on the Portland Trailblazers.

"The gameplay is very fast and the new players in NBA Live 97 look and play amazingly like the real game," said Richmond, All-Star Guard of the Sacramento Kings and avid fan of past NBA Live games. "NBA Live 97 on the PlayStation is the best hoops game I've ever played, and it's a great feeling to know that my moves are actually in the game. Since NBA Live is the most popular basketball game among NBA players, I expect to receive some serious heckling when I compete head-to-head against other players in the NBA this season."

To further enhance the game's realism, NBA Live 97 has incorporated signature moves for the stars of every team in the league. The NBA showcases many of the best athletes and specialty moves of any sport in the world, and NBA Live 97 highlights those moves in the game. Thus, game players are able to perform a variety of showtime moves: Shawn Kemp's dazzling windmill dunk; Penny Hardaway's mid-air pass; Reggie Miller's juke to the basket and long-range jumper; Allen Iverson's cross-over dribble; and the alley-oop combination of Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury.

For the ultimate NBA experience, NBA Live 97 introduces a new arena announcer, Al Murdoch of the Vancouver Grizzlies, and analysis from Ernie Johnson, Jr. of TNT Sports. Eight different camera angles allow players to view the basketball action from the press box, up in the rafters, or even down on the hardwood. Enhanced sound effects include a home crowd noise advantage and CD-quality sound and music.

NBA Live 97 also allows users to create players and run strategic plays. More than 50 realistic NBA plays are available, including animated play diagrams for users to study before executing the strategy. Up to 40 players can be created. Each player has his name, number and team logo on his uniform, including those that are made in the "create a player" mode. It's even possible to take on the role of general manager to sign, release or trade free agents.

NBA Live 97 for the PlayStation carries a suggested retail price of $59.95. NBA Live 97 is also currently shipping on the Sega Genesis and Super NES, and will be available for the PC in time for the holiday season.
