ELECTROCOM AUTOMATION NAMES THOMPSONEXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 DALLAS, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ElectroCom Automation Inc. (NYSE: ECA) announced that at a board of directors meeting today G.D. (Dan) Thompson was elected to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer. Thompson also was appointed to the company's board of directors and to the board of management of ElectroCom Automation L.P., the operating partnership.
 Thompson, who has 32 years with ECA and its predecessors, was previously senior vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer.
 Thomas G. Burmeister succeeds Thompson as senior vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. He joined ECA in February 1993 after more than 26 years with General Electric Company, where he held various financial management positions. Burmeister was formerly the chief financial executive of the Communications and Strategic Systems Division of G.E. -- Aerospace.
 Robert S. Buzard, ElectroCom's president and chief executive officer, said that Thompson will report to the president of the company and Burmeister will report to Thompson.
 ElectroCom Automation Inc., manufactures high-speed automated document processing systems for use primarily by the United States Postal Service and other government and commercial customers. The company also manufactures mobile data and voice communications systems and products for public safety and transit authorities, provides funded research and development, and recently began to produce materials handling systems and equipment for the commercial warehouse and distribution markets. The company's common stock is listed on the NYSE under the symbol "ECA."
