ELECTRO FIBEROPTICS CORPORATION BECOMES FIRST US MANUFACTURER TO SELL FIBEROPTIC SIGN TECHNOLOGY IN JAPAN

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Electro FiberOptics Corporation has signed a distribution agreement with Moritex Corporation to become the first US manufacturer to export fiberoptics sign components to Japan, in a mutual announcement made by Konrad Lisi, president of Electro FiberOptics, and Moritex president Yukoh Morito. According to Lisi, the two companies have entered into a partnership that provides for a mutual exchange of products.
"Both companies have something to bring to the table," commented Lisi. "For Electro FiberOptics, it's primarily fiberoptic harnesses and designs for producing airport and roadway traffic control signage that offers tangible advantages over traditional neon or incandescent signs."
According to Lisi the agreement, signed this month, makes Moritex the sole Japanese distributor of Electro's fiberoptic sign components, as well as its medical illumination and imaging devices. In exchange, Moritex will supply Electro with the technology to produce large diameter flexible fiberoptic imaging devices, called endoscopes, for the medical market. Endoscopes are viewing instruments with rigid or flexible fiberoptic tips that enable doctors to see inside the body during diagnostic or surgical procedures.
Electro FiberOptics Corporation is a 6.5 million dollar company with 64 employees based in its Northborough, Mass. manufacturing facility. It is the only fiberoptic sign manufacturer in North America that draws its own fiber. Approximately half of its products are designed for the international traffic control market, while the other half is comprised of fiberoptic light and image guides for the industrial, medical and military markets.
Moritex Corporation is a 50 million dollar company headquartered in Tokyo with a US branch in San Diego, Calif. Founded in 1973, Moritex manufacturers and sells optical fiber and instruments, test and measurement devices, and a wide range of related products.
