ELECTRIC POTPOURRI POT CARRYING UNAUTHORIZED UL MARK PRESENTS FIRE RISK
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) warns consumers that some model KB-100 electric potpourri pots manufactured by King Brand Electrical Ceramics Company, Ltd. of Taiwan bear an unauthorized UL Listing Mark and may present a risk of fire.
After conducting tests on samples of the product, UL found that during normal use, the temperature of the potpourri pot exceeds the established limits for this type of equipment. Because of the risk of fire, consumers who have these potpourri pots are urged to immediately discontinue using them. These potpourri pots were not evaluated by UL with a 30 watt rating, nor are they covered by UL's Listing service and Follow-Up Services program. Therefore, these pots should not have carried any reference to UL on the units or the associated packaging.
Model KB-100 electric potpourri pots produced prior to April 25, 1991, and rated at 21 watts were UL Listed and are not specifically involved in this public notice.
The model KB-100 potpourri pot is a small ceramic container without a lid and is distributed through various retail outlets. The heating element is built into the bottom of the pot, and the unauthorized UL Mark is molded into the plastic surrounding the heating element. The 30 watt electrical rating can be found molded into the plastic base of the pot. The unauthorized UL Listing Mark consists of the UL in a circle registered Mark and the alphanumeric codes, "82E5" and "E121478."
UL is an independent, not-for-profit product safety certification organization that operates four major testing faculties in the United States and more than 200 inspection offices throughout the world.
