ELCAN SELECTS KOPIN CYBERDISPLAY FOR INFRARED RIFLE SCOPE.

Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) Tauton, Mass. is supplying CyberDisplay(TM) active matrix liquid crystal displays to ELCAN Optical Technologies (A Raytheon Company), for use in ELCAN's new SpecterIR(TM) infrared rifle scope. The SpecterIR infrared rifle scope, which features Kopin's CyberDisplay 320M, provides a true "see in-the-dark" infrared capability in a thermal weapon sight designed specifically for homeland security, police and security professionals.

The SpecterIR uses advanced thermal imager technology and is configured for rifle-mounted use. The easy-to-operate passive infrared sight allows users to see clear heat signatures at more than 200 meters in total darkness, rain, dust, fog and smoke, making it an excellent detection and targeting tool. The SpecterIR infrared rifle scope is ideal for high-security installations such as military bases, correctional facilities, nuclear power plants, oil refineries, border crossings and water treatment plants.

ELCAN's initial production order follows a rapid three-month prototyping effort based on Kopin's off-the-shelf RS-170 video module. "Kopin's commercially available tool-set of CyberDisplay video modules allowed us to prototype this product in record time," said Clay Towery, ELCAN's new business development manager. "The cost and performance combination of Kopin's CyberDisplay AMLCDs make them unbeatable in a rugged product application such as the SpecterIR."

"Based on Kopin's successful track record in high-performance military systems, the CyberDisplay was uniquely positioned to meet ELCAN's needs in developing this next-generation thermal imaging system," stated Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin's president and chief executive officer. "We are committed to supporting the U.S. Government's demands for high-performance displays and are proud that the Kopin CyberDisplay is being used to support the homeland security initiative."

The CyberDisplay 320M is a 0.24" diagonal transmissive AMLCD microdisplay with a resolution of 320x240 (QVGA) pixels. The CyberDisplay 320M is packaged in a viewfinder-like configuration and provides a high quality monochrome image of thermal scene captured by the SpecterIR.
